Response to Donald Trump Anti-Abortion Agenda

News broke today that in a letter to potential supporters, Donald Trump unveiled his anti-abortion agenda, which includes defunding Planned Parenthood and making permanent the Hyde Amendment, which bans insurance coverage for abortion for women enrolled in Medicaid. This happened as we near the 40th anniversary of Hyde on September 30th.

Destiny Lopez, Co-Director of the All* Above All Action Fund, issued the following statement in response:

“In a letter seeking support from anti-abortion extremists, Trump exposes his draconian plan to take away women’s health care, defund Planned Parenthood, and make permanent the cruel and devastating Hyde Amendment, which bans insurance coverage for abortion for low-income women. He’s clearly trying to make good on his promise to punish women by denying care and shutting down community providers. It’s shameful.

“News reports indicate that Trump will be peddling his agenda of punishment to people in battleground states. A new poll released yesterday shows that those same battleground voters don’t think a woman should be denied abortion coverage just because she’s poor, so Trump may find a chilly reception. This is 2016, not 1950, and women need better access to quality health care, not out-of-touch politicians interfering in our decisions.”
